Opposition leaders have reacted with a pinch of salt to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's take on punishing tainted MPs and MLAs if he comes to power.

Former member of Parliament Shahid Siddiqui said:"This will not be an easy task to send tainted MPs and MLAs to jail. It is within the BJP where most number of cases are booked against its representatives under serious charges. But if Modi tries with sincerity, then he can instill a spirit of fear and prevent them from contesting elections in the future."

Union Minister Kapil Sibal of the Congress was scathing in his attack of Modi's intent.

"First, we will ask for his (Modi) prosecution. Regarding others, we will seek later. We would like to ask him from where he is getting those funds for his election campaign? I believe that the entire parliament should demand that a commission be set up by a sitting judge to determine the source of his mindboggling campaigning funds. He has rampantly misused print and electronic media," Sibal said.

K C Tyagi of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) said: "Will he (Modi) send Amit Shah, B S Yeddyurappa, Reddy Brothers and Sriramulu to jail? When he takes action against these leaders, only then will people believe him.
