The original members of US pop group Sapphires whose lives inspired the acclaimed movie 'The Sapphires' have reached across the globe to call on race rights advocates to boycott the US DVD cover.
The DVD, which is due for release in the US on Tuesday, carries a cover downgrading the four star Aboriginal characters to the background, while Irish actor Chris O'Dowd is featured in the foreground, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The original Sapphires - Naomi Mayers, Beverly Briggs, Lois Peeler and Laurel Robinson - have written to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in the US to complain.
The US cover image has already prompted outcry on social media and commentators have labelled it racist.
