In a fresh attempt to break the One Rank One Pension (OROP) stalemate, a delegation of ex-servicemen met with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday and were assured that quick action will be taken by the government on the matter.
"We reminded the Home Minister of the BJP's promise before elections that, the OROP would be implemented as soon as their government comes into power. Even Prime Minister Modi had said before the elections that this matter was of utmost importance," Retd. Major General Satbir Singh said to the media here.
He added that even though the Home Minister did not give out any date for the implementation of the scheme, he promised to make a quick decision on the matter and will consult with the Prime Minister.
"This agitation will end only when the OROP letter is issued without dilution or delay," Singh added.
Retired military personnel had earlier today boycotted the government's celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of India's 1965 war with Pakistan and expressed displeasure at Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's failure to give a concrete decision on the one rank one pension.
Parrikar had earlier hinted at the possibility of the government approving the OROP scheme for retired armed forces personnel, but did not give any concrete ruling on the matter.
