The Delhi High Court on Tuesday will pronounce its order on two separate pleas challenging the Delhi government's decision to give Rs.1 crore compensation to his family and to grant martyr status to ex-army man Ram Kishan Grewal, who recently committed suicide in the national capital allegedly over his grievances on the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) issue.

Advocate Avadh Kaushik has opposed the AAP government's decision to declare Grewal a 'martyr'.

The petition, filed by ex-paramilitary personnel Puranchand Arya, says that the granting of 'martyr' status will promote more suicides in the future for the sake of money.

The petitioner has also asked the court to frame guidelines for granting martyr status by both the state and central governments.

On November 4th, ex-serviceman Grewal committed suicide by consuming poison at Janpath, allegedly over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, triggering a political firestorm and leading to dramatic scenes in the capital today, with police detaining Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Police also detained some of Grewal's family members, including his two sons, other retired servicemen and Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Kiran Chaudhary, who were held at different police stations in the city for a few hours before being allowed to leave.
