Over 100 villages in districts like Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Kalahandi have been flooded due to incessant rainfall, leading to a breach of embankment along the River Baitarani near Patpur in Odisha.
However, the Indian Meteorological Department in Odisha has said that rainfall in the state will reduce in next two to three days, giving people relief from incessant downpour.
Director at Meteorological Department, S.C. Sahu, said deficit rainfall had improved.
"This rainfall will decrease for next two to three days. Thereafter it may increase but in another two to three days it will decrease. So now the deficit rainfall has improved and is a normal rainfall," said Sahu.
Meanwhile, special relief commissioner, P.K. Mohapatra said there breaches in two districts and collectors were directed to evacuate villagers.
"The water level peaked up to 40.05 meters which was against danger level of 38.36. But now it is falling. But there have been two to three breaches in Bhadrak and Jaspur districts, where we have asked the collector to evacuate the people. Rest of the Odisha, water level is falling so nothing much to worry about," Mohapatra said.
He also added that free kitchens have been opened to provide cooked food to evacuated villagers.
The state government has ordered Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for undertaking rescue and relief operation.
