Over 50 trains cancelled, 200 trains affected in flood-hit TN: Suresh Prabhu

Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday said over 50 trains have been cancelled and around 200 trains were affected over a period of time due to the devastating floods in Tamil Nadu.

"This kind of problem did not emerge in the last 100 years. The government is doing its best to overcome the situation arising from devastating floods. Over 50 trains have been cancelled and around 200 trains were affected over a period of time," Prabhu told the media here.

"Senior officers have been deployed at major stations of Tamil Nadu. Over 10,000 food packets and water bottles were distributed to the stranded passengers. Food and drinking water stocks are available at major stations," he added.

Prabhu also said the railway doctors have been deployed at various stations to check the deteriorating health condition of the stranded passengers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas today, announced central assistance of Rs. 1,000 crore for rain-hit Chennai. He also met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
