An Australian solicitor is reportedly asking for her membership of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) to be cancelled after she was turned away from the Members Stand on the second day of the fifth and final Ashes Test because her 'hemline was too brief'.

Lynda Reid, who has been a member of the SCG for 25 years, was sent away after turning up to queue for entry on Sunday because of the alleged inappropriateness of her dress.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Reid, who will also request that her two children be removed from the Members waiting list, had checked the dress code regulations and satisfied herself that she was compliant, although the trouble began when a steward told her she would have problems getting in given the length of her dress.

Reid said that she is a corporate solicitor and not 'a hick from somewhere' that she does not know what is appropriate and what is not, adding that when she was approached by a second steward, a woman this time, and told to leave the queue immediately to change clothes, she realised her hemline had been deemed 'haram', following which she left.

The rules for the Members Reserve - which includes the M.A. Noble Stand, the Ladies Stand and the Allianz Stadium Members Area - states that dresses should be 'of a respectable length', adding that dresses must be knee-length if cricket-goers wish to penetrate the inner sanctum of the Members Pavilion.

Reid's father, a platinum SCG member, made a complaint on her behalf, and received an apology, but she herself has not heard from the SCG, although a spokesman for the SCG said no official complaint had yet been processed.
