Ecstatic with the performance of girls in the ongoing Rio Games, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore today expressed confidence that shuttler P.V. Sindhu will return home with an Olympic gold.
"We are confident that with the kind of display she (PV Sindhu) is doing in badminton, she will come back with an Olympic gold. Both the girls have shown the path to the entire Indian team there," he told the media here.
The veteran shooter, who rose to fame after winning the silver medal in Men's Double Trap at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, also expressed hope that the other Indian athletes also put their best foot forward.
"And we hope that the remaining athletes that are there and their events that are still to go, they put up their best show and make the whole country proud," he said.
The 23-year-old shuttler from Hyderabad registered a scintillating 21-19, 21-10 victory over Nozomi Okuhara of Japan to seal a place in the Rio Games Gold medal match.
She will now shuttle against two time World Champion from Spain, Carolina Marin, in the final clash today.
Sakshi Malik earlier ended India's long Rio Olympics medal wait with a bronze in wrestling.
The 23-year-old girl from Mokhra village near Rohtak in Haryana clinched the bronze in the Women's Freestyle 58kg category with a spirited comeback victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan.
