American basketball coach Erik Spoelstra has reportedly revealed that his status might have been surpassed by long-time boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who is taking over as a basketball coach in the Philippines Basketball Association.
With Pacquiao reportedly being introduced this week as the coach of a new Kia team in the Philippines Basketball Association, Spoelstra, despite being widely popular in the Philippines as the Filipino-American coach of two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat, might not be the country's favourite basketball coach anymore.
According to Sport24, Spoelstra said that he is not taking a boxing job, but he knows that Pacquiao is a huge basketball fan, so him becoming a coach does not surprise the American.
Pacquiao's love for basketball is no secret and the boxer said that he was taking the coaching position seriously, adding that it is a great responsibility.
