Vece Paes, the father of tennis ace Leander Paes, has congratulated his son on his latest feat at the Wimbledon Championships and said that it has been a great year for India with Sania Mirza and Sumit Nagal also clinching their respective titles.

Vece said that these victories would definitely inspire the youngsters in the Indian tennis circuit.

"Obviously we are excited for him because it has been a long journey for him 26 years that he has been on the tennis circuit. Any grand slam win is special. Wimbledon in particular because of the traditions of Wimbledon and Leander won his first junior grand slam in Wimbledon in 1990," Vece told ANI.

"So, it's exciting, the more wins you get, the better confidence you have, the more money you earn, the more ranking points you get. So, it all adds up to his performance levels," he added.

The senior Paes further said that his son always emphasizes on playing for India.

"He puts a lot of focus and lot of his itinerary for India. Davis Cup, Olympics, Asian Games, that's where his emphasis are. Like he stated last night that this trophy is for India. He obviously plays for himself, for his family and for his country," he added.
