An Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain to serve 81 years in prison for his anti-state speeches.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs. 2.4 million on Hussain.

ATC Judge Raja Shahbaz Khan also directed the Sindh Inspector General of Police to produce self-exiled Hussain the court, The Express Tribune reports.

Hussain, who is living in London, faced nation-wide criticism for accusing Pakistani Rangers personnel of treating the people of Karachi in the same way as Indian troops were allegedly treating Kashmiris.

He later pleaded with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the United Nations (UN) to send peacekeeping troops to Karachi to neutralise the Pakistani Rangers.

Lawmakers in Pakistan have passed resolutions condemning Hussain for his remark.
