Pak FO summons Indian Deputy High Commissioner to discuss Aseemanand's bail

Pakistan Foreign Office summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh to express its reservations over a decision of India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) not to contest the bail granted to Swami Aseemanand on a "Special Leave Permission."

The foreign office told Mr. Singh that the Pakistan Government is concerned about the efficiency of the court in the processing and disposal of cases regarding terrorism, especially those involving deaths of Pakistani citizens, the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The foreign office further said that the Government of Pakistan expects India to take steps to bring to justice all those involved in the heinous act of terrorism on the Samjhauta Express, in which 42 Pakistani innocent citizens lost their lives.

India's Union Home Ministry had earlier informed the Lok Sabha that the NIA, upon examining the feasibility of filing a Special Leave Petition, found no grounds to challenge the conditional bail granted to Aseemanand by the Punjab and Haryana High Court last year in the Samjhauta blasts case.

The Samjhauta Express, a bi-weekly train between Delhi and Lahore, was bombed in February 2007 just as it passed Panipat in Haryana.
