The Pakistan Government on Saturday cleared 29 terrorism related cases to be sent to the military courts after the country's Army chief general Qamar Javed Bajwa raised concern over the courts not receiving any such cases since January.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had directed the federal government to inquire about the status of transference of the cases after Bajwa wrote to him, The Express Tribune reported.
Bajwa in his letter to the Prime Minister pointed out that the military courts had not received any terrorism-related cases since January.
"Eighty more cases will be sent to military courts," The Express Tribune quoted Interior minister Ahsan Iqbal as saying in an interview with a private news channel.
"These cases will be first approved in the next cabinet meeting. After this, the interior ministry will not have any more pending cases," Iqbal added.
The 28th Amendment Bill 2017, which sought the extension of military courts for another two years, was passed in the Senate after two-third majority votes came in its favour on March 28.
