Colonel (Retired) Danvir Singh said on Sunday that Pakistan is resorting to ceasefire violations as it wants to keep the issue of Jammu and Kashmir's disputed status alive.
He also stated that the firing has mostly been concentrated in the plain region as there is easy media access and the civilian population is residing quite close to the border.
Talking of the possible reasons for the violation of ceasefire by Pakistan, Singh said, "Very firstly, Pakistan wants to keep the issue alive. It wants to highlight to the world the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. Secondly, the firing that we saw in past few instances has been concentrated in the plain region of Jammu and Kashmir."
"The reason being is that there is easy media access and the civilian population is residing quite close to the border. Any effect on the civilian population puts a pressure on the administration and it definitely affects the moral our side adversely. So, that is the interest of Pakistan in having lots of firing in this region", he added.
There has been a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in the past two months, the most recent one taking place on Sunday morning in the Hamirpur sector of Poonch.
