Pak trail Lanka by 177 at end of day 3 of second Test

Sri Lanka dismissed Pakistan's batting line up on day three of the second Test and piled up a 177 run lead over the tourists for the loss of two wickets after they went in to bat at the end of the first innings.

Pakistan failed to take a good lead over Sri Lanka despite having performed well on day two of the second Test. The tourists were chasing the Sri Lanka's 320 in the first innings and managed to score 332 all out, taking just a 12-run lead over the hosts.

Pakistan started day three with Sarfraz Ahmed and Abdur Rehman at the pitch at their individual scores of 66 and one respectively. Only Ahmed managed to score a ton, amassing 103 runs before he lost his wicket to Niroshan Dickwella behind the stumps off the delivery of Rangana Herath.

Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene caught Rehman for his individual score of 16 runs off Herath's delivery. Herath claimed nine wickets out of 10 in the match.

Chanaka Welegedara caught Wahab Riaz for his individual score of 17 off Herath's delivery. Herath's ninth wicket came as he bowled out Saeed Ajmal, who scored four runs.

For Sri Lanka, opener Upul Tharanga scored 45 before he lost his wicket to Rehman. Kaushal Silva was the next to go for his individual score of 17, losing his wicket to Rehman's delivery again, being caught by Younis Khan.

Former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara remained unbeaten on 54 with Jayawardene unbeaten on 49. The two former skippers will resume batting for the host side on start of day four of the second Test.

Sri Lanka leads the two-match Test series 1-0 and would be looking to win it, as Jayawardene will bid farewell to the long format of cricket after this Test.
