Pakistan put up a fine batting display while chasing Sri Lanka's 320 all out and trail the hosts by 76 runs at the end of day two with four wickets remaining in the first innings of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
Sri Lanka had scored 261 for the loss of eight wickets on day one. Dhamika Prasad and Rangana Herath had resumed batting for the hosts and lost their wickets on their individual scores of 13 and 17 respectively. Chanaka Welegedara remained unbeaten on 27 for the host side.
For Pakistan opener Khurram Manzoor scored 23 before he was caught behind the wicket by Niroshan Dickwella off Herath's delivery. Ahmed Shehzad, who put in 58 runs before being caught by Dickwella off Dilruwan Perera's delivery, helped him on the crease.
Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews caught Azhar Ali for his individual score of 32 runs off Herath's delivery. Younis Khan and skipper Misbah-ul-Haq also lost their wickets to Herath, both being caught behind the wicket by Dickwella for their individual scores of 13 and five respectively.
Herath bowled off Asad Shafiq to claim his fifth wicket of the match. Shafiq scored 42 before being bowled out by the slow left-arm orthodox bowler's delivery.
Sarfaraz Ahmed and Abdur Rehman remained unbeaten for their individual score of 66 and one respectively and will resume batting for the tourists on day three of the second Test.
