Winding up a debate in the Pakistan Senate on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy here on Tuesday, Chairman Raza Rabbani warned that Pakistan is once again at risk of a possible military takeover.

Rabbani warned that constitutional checks need to be put in place on priority to prevent another military takeover.

He reminded members that Pakistan has been controlled by its army for nearly half of its 68 years of independence.

The opposition stated that there is an increasing disconnect between the powerful military and the government.
