With the opposition persisting with its logjam of parliament over the demonetisation issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday asserted that parliament is not a bargaining ground and asked the opposition to come with cogent arguments to remove shortcomings instead of insisting on a rollback of demonetisation.
"Parliament is not a bargaining ground. The government has agreed to discuss under the Rule 193, it doesn't entail any voting. However, the opposition is insisting for voting under the Rule 164. The Treasury Bench has agreed to discuss the issue, let them bring out the facts, let them bring out whatever opinion they have over demonetisation. We can improve the shortcomings which would be in the best interest of the people. They should set aside their ego," BJP leader S. Prakash told ANI.
Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day yesterday as a mark of respect to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away in Chennai on December 5.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders will be meeting today at 9:30 a.m. in parliament to discuss their strategy on demonetisation.
The Congress Party has issued three line whips to its members in both houses of Parliament.
