PC Chacko concerned about Indians stranded in Iraq

Former member of Parliament from Kerala, PC Chacko has expressed his concerns about Indians stranded in Iraq by stating that the matter should be taken up at the highest level with more urgency because of the ongoing civil war in Iraq between the Kurdish rebels and the Iraqi forces has affected some areas in a very precariously.

Chacko said, "It is a very worrying factor for the people of India, and especially for the people from Kerala. Yesterday also I had made a request to the honorable PM and also to External Affairs minister. On 13 June the CM of Kerala had made a request to the PM, and I am sure the government of India will be looking after this matter."

"There are some towns that are under the control of the rebels, some towns where Indians are there and there are areas where large numbers of Malayali nurses are working, including 46 nurses in Tikrit, who are virtually held up as hey can't go anywhere, there is no flight available and they can't even escape. The entire town of Tikrit is controlled by the rebels and they can be seen from the distance wielding guns. The security of the people and the food supplies is also affected because of this," he added.
