Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Shaharyar Khan has said that he has written a letter to the Indian cricket board secretary seeking an update on the proposed bilateral series between the two sub-continental rivals scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates in December.

The proposed series between the two countries comprises of two Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 series. However, the escalating tension between the two nations along the border has put the series in jeopardy.

"I have written a letter to Mr (Anurag) Thakur, in the main saying that cricket and politics should be kept apart," said Shaharyar was quoted as saying by Sport24.

Shaharyar also expressed hope that the BCCI would be able to convince the Indian government that it ought to honour its MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the PCB.

In the wake of Gurdaspur attack in July, Thakur had earlier ruled out the immediate resumption of stalled series against Pakistan, saying that one cannot expect a cricket series amidst rising terrorist activities.

According to the MoU signed between PCB and BCCI, both countries are scheduled to play six series in the 2015-2023 Future Tours Programme, but all were subject to clearance from New Delhi.

India have not played a full bilateral Test series with Pakistan after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
