PCB demands Latif to 'provide proof or apologise' for 'bookie guest' claims

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked former captain Rashid Latif to either apologise or provide proof to support his claims that an alleged bookie was the guest of the cricket authorities in 2005.

According to the Daily Times, Latif, who was the whistleblower in the spot-fixing case of 1994, had alleged that Anu Bhatt, named in leg-spinner Danish Kaneria's spot-fixing case in England last year, was a guest of the Pakistan cricket authorities in 2005, and also slammed the PCB for not standing by Kaneria.

Stating that Latif must either apologise or give proof to substantiate his claims, the PCB legal advisor said that they have sent Latif a notice demanding credible evidence like an air ticket to Bhatt or hotel accommodation as proof within the next three days.

The advisor further said that they would take legal action against Latif if he fails to do either of the conditions asked.

The board had strongly denied Latif's statement and termed it a 'baseless and stupid accusation'.
