PDP leader calls for alternative to two-family system in J-K

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Yasir Reshi issued a statement in solidarity with the views of his colleagues, expressing a desire to find an alternative to the traditional two-family system in Jammu and Kashmir.

"I am in complete conformity with views expressed recently by my colleagues, to find an alternative to traditional two-family system. The state needs respite from the tried, tested and failed two-family power-sharing model," read the statement released by Reshi on Friday.

Reshi also said it is the need of the hour to build a consensus on leadership to counter the challenges the state is facing.

"The need of the hour is to rise to the occasion and collectively, cutting across party lines, build a consensus on a leadership which has the capacity to counter the challenges of governance, law and societal distress in the state," added Reshi.

Earlier this week, PDP leader Imran Raza Ansari lashed out at former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and accused her of obliterating the party by promoting nepotism. He also hinted at exiting the party.

The statements come amid speculations of an alliance between PDP and the Congress party and together, with the support of other smaller parties and independents, they may seek to form a new government in the state.

However, Mehbooba Mufti on July 3 rubbished rumours of PDP-Congress alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. She took to Twitter to clear the air about the possibility of an alliance between the two parties.

On June 19, the Bharatiya Janata Party pulled out of its alliance with Mehbooba Mufti's PDP in Jammu and Kashmir, following which Mufti submitted her resignation as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

This led to the imposition of Governor's rule in the state.
