Thousands of people thronged the Ganga Ghat on Saturday to celebrate Dev Deepawali with great fervour in Varanasi.
Dev Deepawali meaning festival of lights of the Gods is celebrated on Kartik Poornima.
The ghat was spectacularly lit up with earthen lamps and decorated with flowers on the occasion.
Priests in large numbers performed aarti in the evening at the ghats.
Former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, people of the state decorated their houses with oil lamps and burnt firecrackers.
The tradition of lighting the lamps on the Dev Deepawali festival day was first started at the Panchganga Ghat in 1985.
