Singapore, Jan 6 (ANI): The personal details of frequent flyers of Singapore Airlines (SIA) were compromised due to a software glitch on January 4, the SIA confirmed to ANI.
"Due to a software bug following a change to our website homepage on 4 January 2019, we have been made aware of a number of cases in which a customer logged in to his or her KrisFlyer account, under certain specific conditions, may have been able to see selective details of another customer," the airlines' official confirmed.
The SIA further stated that the passport details of multiple passengers also got public.
The airlines revealed that there were 284 such cases of the data breach.
"In 277 of these cases, the following may have been able to be seen: name, email address, account number, membership tier status, total KrisFlyer miles, recent miles transactions, upcoming flights and KrisFlyer rewards. In the remaining seven cases, passport details may also have been able to be seen," SIA revealed.
Meanwhile, there were no changes made to any members' accounts, and no credit card details were misused.
The airlines further said, "We have established that this was a one-off software bug and was not the result of an external party's breach of our systems or members' accounts. The period during which the incident occurred was between about 2 am and 12:15pm (Singapore time) on 4 January 2019, at which point the issue was resolved."
The SIA also informed the Singapore data protection authority in order to have the matter probed.
"SIA has also voluntarily informed the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore." Airlines added. The SIA also issued an apology to the victim passengers.
