Musical comedy 'Pitch Perfect 2'has earned a whopping USD 70.3 in its first weekend, leaving the Tom Hardy-starrer 'Mad Max
The Elizabeth Banks-directed sequel has already eclipsed the entire USD 65 million box office run of the original film in its initial week, the BBC reported.
Celebrating the gigantic triumph, Universal's Nick Carpou described the musical sequel's success as 'amazing'.
The film showcases American actress Anna Kendrick and stand-up comedian Rebel Wilson reprising their original roles. The story sees the Bellas, an-all female a capella singing group, square off against German aca-champions Das Sound Machine in an international singing contest.
'Mad Max: Fury Road,' the first movie in the franchise in 30 years,
roped in just USD 44.4 million, way below its USD 150 million
production cost.
