PM Modi asks Chhattisgarh CM to probe Bilaspur incident thoroughly

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and expressed his concern over the Bilaspur incident, and asked him to ensure a thorough investigation.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to twitter to share the conversation between the two leaders.

"The PM spoke to Chhattisgarh CM @drramansingh on the unfortunate tragedy in Bilaspur. The PM expressed concern over the tragedy," the PMO tweeted.

"The PM has asked @drramansingh to ensure a thorough investigation and action in the entire issue," it added.

Prime Minister Modi, who is currently in Myanmar, will return to India on November 20.

Eight women reportedly lost their lives and 30 others were left critical after undergoing a sterilization operation at a government camp in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district.

Out of the 85 women who were operated upon at the government-run Nemi Chand hospital in the Pendari area of Bilaspur as part of a family planning camp almost 55 suffered due to the sterilization surgery.

The government has ordered an investigation into the incident and announced a compensation of Rs. two lakh each for the next of kin of the eight deceased women.
