The Congress Party on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to influence the voters of politically crucial Uttar Pradesh by uttering lies.

"This truth is that Modiji is trying to influence the voters of UP in his favour by propagating lies," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.

"If the Prime Minister of the country will tell lies like this then how will this government run proficiently?" he asked.

Surjewala also lashed out at the government over the increase in the price of non-subsidized cylinders.

He said, "Yesterday night, Modi government increased the price of cylinders for record 86 rupees. The price has been increased for the sixth time since September 2016. The cylinder, which was priced at Rs 466 then, will now cost Rs. 737."

The Congress' spokesperson also slammed the decision of imposing tax of Rs. 150 on more than four ATM transactions.

He said, "The government, which used to advocate Digital India, has now imposed a tax of Rs 150 on more than four transactions from ATM of private and government banks."

Surjewala alleged that Prime Minister Modi government is not pro-poor as his government keeps on introducing new taxes.

Campaigning for sixth phase of the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh will end today.

Polling for sixth phase for 49 seats will be held on March 4. With just two days left, all political parties have put their maximum strength to woo the voters in all poll-bound districts.
