PM Modi, Chinese Premier attend Yoga-Tai Chi event in Beijing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attended the Yoga- Tai Chi joint event at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, accompanied by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

"Yoga is the art of controlling body, mind and intellect. Last September, when I put forth the proposal in the United Nations about the International Yoga Day, 177 countries supported it and China was a co-sponsor with India," said Prime Minister Modi.

"Wonderful to see Indian students doing Tai Chi and Chinese students doing Yoga. The holistic health care that world needs can be fulfilled by Yoga," he added.

"I congratulate Premier Li Keqiang for the conceptualization of this event. I also congratulate him for the choice of the venue as this is the Temple of Heaven," the Prime Minister further said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi called for a speedy and mutually acceptable resolution on the issue of the Line of Actual Control and the stapled visa issue, reiterating the importance of a clarification for the same.

He also said that Asia's voice will be stronger if India and China speak in one voice for each other and also stressed on the need to settle border and boundary issues peacefully and quickly.

India and China have resolved to set up a special task force which will be tasked with addressing the trade deficit between the two nations.

The two neighbours and have agreed to work more closely on counter-terrorism, with Prime Minister Modi and the Chinese Premier stating that terrorism was a threat to both nations.

Prime Minister Modi is on day two of a three-day visit to China. On Saturday, he will visit Shanghai where he will meet business leaders.

President Xi Jinping hosted Modi in his ancestral hometown of Xian on Thursday.
