Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014.
"The entire nation watches the ceremony in Oslo with great joy and immense pride. Congratulations Kailash Satyarthi!" tweeted Prime Minister Modi.
"I also congratulate the young Malala Yousafzai for the momentous achievement," he added in his tweet.
Satyarthi and Malala were honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize at a ceremony in Oslo for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.
This is the first time that an Indian and a Pakistani have jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize.
