PM Modi greets people on occasion of Gujarati New Year

The Gujarati community all over the world is today celebrating their new year i.e. Bestu Varas.

Gujarati community celebrates the New Year after Diwali to mark the beginning of a new fiscal year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted people on this occasion. In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi hoped that the New Year will bring happiness, prosperity and good health for the people.

"Today, a day after Diwali, Gujaratis mark the start of a New Year. Saal Mubarak to Gujaratis across the world. May this be a joy filled year," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Lots of social events and gatherings are being organised in the state today.

The Bestu Varas celebration marks with bursting of crackers by children in the morning. On this day people visit the temple to offer puja to deities. Dressed up in festival finery, people meet their relatives and friends to wish them a new year.

The day is of special significance for traders and businessmen as it is marked the beginning of the financial year for them and hence, new ledgers are opened on this auspicious day. The enterprising people, mostly engaged in business, herald their Bestu Varas with celebrations, feast and revelry.
