Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited his Nepalese counterpart KP Sharma Oli for a visit to India after he telephoned him to discuss multiple issues including the ongoing restrictions on flow of goods from the border points.

According to Kathmandu Post, Modi's invitation comes days after DPM Kamal Thapa and Law Minister Agni Kharel wrapped up their China visit where they made necessary preparations for Oli's visit to the northern neighbour.

Oli responded by saying that he would visit India only after ease of supplies to Nepal.

Oli thanked Indian government for welcoming the constitution amendment bill presented in the parliament.

Modi has stressed on finding a durable solution to the political problems in Nepal based on consensus or 'sahmati'.

The Prime Minister also extended his good wishes to the 'friendly people of Nepal for the New Year 2016', said a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

This is the third telephonic conversation between the Indian Prime Minister and Nepali counterpart in three months since the blockade.

Madhesis, who share a strong cultural and family bonds with Indians, have imposed a general strike in southern Nepal, thereby causing shortage of fuel and other essential goods in the country.

Madhesi leaders have submitted an 11-point demand to the Nepal Government. Their demands include re-demarcation of the provinces, fixing of electoral constituencies on the basis of population and proportional representation.
