PM Modi meets distinguished Indian Americans in New York

Seeks their views on development, they say decision-making, ease of doing business, skill development, university-industry links need focus

A group of 10 distinguished Indian Americans called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York on Saturday.

The Prime Minister, who is currently on a bilateral tour of the United States, urged them to share their views on the development of India. The Indian-Americans mentioned the clarity of decision-making, ease of doing business, skill development and strong university-industry links as some of the important areas that needed to be focused on. They also praised the initiatives such as Digital India and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

In the course of conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to his "Make in India" initiative, and said that it would lay emphasis on ease of doing business.

He also said that investors need a sense of security and confidence in the economy.

Referring to the raising of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) limits in defence and railways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the investors must realize that the FDI also stands for "First Develop India." He also referred to the Digital India and Skill India initiatives.

The group said they would like to interact with the Prime Minister in future as well. The Prime Minister urged them to share their ideas on the MyGov platform - MyGov.in.
