Former Indian envoy Vivek Katju on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's engagements with the world leaders will help in boosting India's international policies.
"In these six months since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come to power, the meetings which he has held with the world leaders has now made them realize that now India has such a Prime Minister as earlier csaid by U.S. President Barack Obama that 'he is the man of action'. So, now India will contribute more to the international community. It will also add thrust to the country's international policies," said Katju.
Citing the black money issue, he said it is very important for India's economic and political situation.
"Previously also, efforts have been made. But the clarity with which Prime Minister Modi kept India's point at the G-20 Summit, I believe that it will have good results," Katju further said.
"What the Prime Minister said over tax issue was apt and if the world agrees to it, then all of them will be benefitted by this. But there are such vested interests still prevailing in the world which will try to create hindrances and India will need to proceed with dedication towards achieving this goal. Prime Minister Modi's initiative is very nice and now we need to abide by it," Katju added.
Prime Minister Modi, who had raised the issue of black money at the G-20 Summit earlier on Sunday, stated that India supports all initiatives which facilitate automatic exchange of information among nations that ultimately help in tracing unaccounted money and its eventual repatriation.
During the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Modi also stressed on coordinated decision-making in tackling the challenge of tax avoidation and profit shifting and urged nations which are tax havens to share information for tax purposes in accordance with treaty obligations.
