Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi greeted the nation on the occasion of birthday of Guru Nanak Dev.
President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari also greeted the nation on the occasion.
President Mukherjee said that Guru Nanak's message of compassion and equality of all human beings is of timeless relevance.
Vice President Ansari said that Guru Nanak's divine message of truth, compassion and tolerance has eternal relevance for liberation of humanity from violence, bigotry and injustice.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is being celebrated today to mark the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru.
On the occasion, devotees throng to Gurudwaras to remember and pay homage to their guru. Akhand Path is also performed at Gurudwaras.
