A police complaint has been filed against Indian boxing sensation Vijender Singh for 'insulting' national flag of India during his maiden WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title victory against Australian Kerry Hope at the Thyagaraj Stadium on Saturday.
Ullhas PR, a resident of Vasundhara Enclave, has filed the complaint against the 30-year-old pugilist in New Ashok Nagar Police station.
The complainant has accused knockout king Vijender of disrespecting the Indian national flag by wearing tri-color shorts.
"In this match, boxer Vijender Singh was wearing a short and on the back of it India's national flag was placed. This is a clear violation of flag code of India," Ullhas wrote in his complaint.
Ullhas also stated that the Delhi High Court, in response to one of his Public Interest Litigation, had directed him to file a police complaint in incidents where national honour is involved.
Earlier on Saturday, Vijender defeated Welsh-born Australian Kerry Hope in a 10-round bout at a packed Thyagaraj Sports Complex.
Aced with the most experienced and highly-rated opponent of his professional career, Vijender carved out a 98-92, 98-92, 100-90 verdict from three judges to extend his unbeaten pro-boxing streak to seven wins.
