Police registered a case and arrested 14 members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday for the violent clashes, which erupted outside the office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) post detention of former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The members of AAP and BJP entered into a scuffle on Wednesday after Kejriwal was detained in Gujarat.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Mukesh Kumar Meena said that stringent action would be taken against the protesting members of AAP.
"We have registered an FIR and arrested 14 people who will be produced in court. We will also arrest rest of the protesting members and will take stringent action against them including party leader Ashutosh," he said in New Delhi.
The trouble began when the AAP supporters assembled outside BJP headquarters in New Delhi to protest against detention of Kejriwal by Gujarat police, while he was on an election campaign.
According to the Gujarat police, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested as he had failed to take prior permission from police, before his rallies and processions in Gujarat.
However, Kejriwal urged the party workers to remain non-violent.
"I would like to urge the party workers not to become violent and we have to be ready to face all such acts as we are walking on the path of truth. We do not have to raise our hands in any situation and we have to be ready to sacrifice for anything," said Kejriwal in Bhuj.
Slamming the Aam Aadmi Party, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that they want to mar the image of the democratic system by creating chaos.
"These are Naxalite-minded people. I have been warning from a long time. They are not interested in law and order. They just want to discredit the democratic system. They want to just create as much chaos as possible," said Swamy.
