The narcotic cell of Imphal East district police has confirmed the seizure of around 1,605 kilograms of contraband cannabis worth Rs.1 crore in the international market.
The contraband cannabis packed in 107 sealed packets weighing around 15 to 16 kilograms each, was found concealed inside a secret chamber in a Tata truck.
A team of Imphal East district police intercepted the vehicle at the Porompat area after they suspected it of carrying the banned item.
On checking the truck, they retrieved a huge quantity of cannabis from a secret chamber built between the driver's cabin and the back portion of the truck.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
