Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has said he wants cricket to be included in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Speaking at the MCC World Cricket committee at Lord's, the Australian great said that the Olympics are the pinnacle of global sports and to be able to get cricket into the tournament would be an 'awesome spectacle', BBC reported.
Ponting, who is the second highest Test run-scorer of all time, said that it would be great for the growth and development of the sport.
The 40-year old also suggested that games would be played in a T20 format with sides made up of under-23 players, similar to the way football is staged at the Olympics.
A statement from the MCC World Cricket committee read that the committee urges the ICC to reconsider its position and take a decision that it believes was in the best interest of the global game.
The statement further said that this would need to be done in the next 12 months for cricket to have a chance of being included in the 2024 Olympics.
