Pope Francis will make his first trip to the United States next year to participate in a rally for families in Philadelphia, a report said.

The Pope confirmed the news during a speech at the Vatican by saying that he will visit Philadelphia in September 2015 to attend the World Meeting of Families, reported Sky News.

He is also expected to address Congress and deliver a speech at the United Nations to mark its 70th anniversary.

Officials said that the event scheduled to take place on September 25-27 could attract more than one million people.
