Fernando Sebastian, the Pope's new Spanish Cardinal has reportedly labelled homosexuality a physical defect that is curable.
The 85 year old Cardinal compared homosexuality with his high blood pressure and said that homosexuality is a defective manner of expressing sexuality the basic structure and purpose of which is procreation.
He further added that it was possible to recover from homosexuality and become normal with the right treatment, Independent reported.
Sebastian, who is set to take his post as Spain's newest cardinal in the Vatican in February made the comments after Pope Francis was named Person of the Year 2013 by popular gay rights magazine The Advocate.
However, the Cardinal said that his views were not in contradiction to that of the Pope, who had reportedly expressed shock at gay adoption.
