In what can be termed as a dream coming true for Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal clinched their maiden international title after beating hosts France 1-0 in the mouth-watering summit clash of the European Championship here at Stade de France on Monday.

After both sides failed to score goals in the regulation time, substitute Eder struck the match-winning goal for Portugal to ensure his side finish their Euro 2016 campaign on a winning note.

The match also saw skipper Ronaldo subbed in the 25th minute of the match, eight minutes after injuring his knee in a clash with France's Dimitri Payet, the Guardian reported.

France, who were favourites to clinch the title, failed to capitalise on Ronaldo's absence and eventually finished with ending their 18-match winning streak at home.

With the win, Portugal have somewhat erased their harsh memories of the Euro 2004 final defeat to Greece, which left the Real Madrid striker crying on the pitch.
