President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari paid homage to nation's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 51st death anniversary on Wednesday.
The commemoration took place at Nehru's memorial in New Delhi. Mukherjee laid a floral wreath on the memorial along with Ansari, opposition Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other party leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid his tributes to Nehru earlier today.
Nehru was independent India's first and longest serving Prime Minister from August 15, 1947 to May 27, 1964.
He was also a writer, a scholar and an amateur historian. Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad and died on May 27, 1964.
