As the country observes Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary today, President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the great soul for his contribution towards making India a stronger nation.
Taking to Twitter, President Mukherjee said that Tagore was an icon who not only illumined the time he lived in but continues to remain an inspiration for humanity.
Paying his tribute as well, Prime Minister Modi tweeted saying that Tagore will always be remembered for his powerful thoughts and contribution to the freedom movement.
Meanwhile, the process of paying tributes to the great poet has started since early morning throughout West Bengal.
The main function is being held at Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Jorasanko in north Kolkata.
Songs written by the Nobel laureate poet are being sung and his poetry is being recited at different venues of celebrations.
