President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday presented the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award, to six people at a civil investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The honour was accorded to Prince Karim Aga Khan, noted actors Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar, philanthropist Dr. Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade, nuclear scientist Malur Ramasamy Srinivasan and senior advocate KK Venugopal.
At the ceremony, President Mukherjee also awarded eight people the Padma Bhushan awards: film director Jahnu Barua, mathematician Manjul Bhargava, computer scientist Dr Vijay Bhatkar, spiritual leaders Swami Satmitranand Giri and Sree Shivakumara Swamigalu, former Lok Sabha secretary general Subhash C Kashyap, classical vocalist Dr Pandit Gokulotsavji Maharaj and endocrinologist Dr. Ambrish Mithal.
Forty others were also accorded the Padma Shri award.
