Prime Minister Narendra Modi today offered his condolences and also expressed his deep sadness over the demise of yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar.
In a tweet, the prime minister said, "Generations will remember Shri B K S Iyengar as a fine guru, scholar and a stalwart who brought yoga into the lives of many across the world."
"I am deeply saddened to know about Yogacharya B K S Iyengar's demise and offer my condolences to his followers all over the world," Prime Minister Modi added.
Regarded as one of the world's best-known yoga gurus, Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar passed away this morning following a recent hospitalization, according to reports. He was 95 and was reportedly suffering from kidney-related problems.
His 1966 book, Light on Yoga, contains detailed instructions on how to perform more than 200 yoga poses.
