Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday took part in the 'Halwa ceremony' to mark the beginning of the process of printing documents for the Budget 2016-17.
The ceremony, which was held in the ministry's North Block office, was also attended by Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha, Finance Secretary Ratan Watal, Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia and Economic Affairs Department Secretary Shaktikanta Daas besides others.
The ministers and staff were served with 'Halwa', which was prepared in a big 'Kadhai'.
The significance of this event is that the officials directly associated with the Budget making and printing process are required to stay in the ministry office till the budget is presented.
