The Delhi Government on Wednesday said that it has instructed all private hospitals not to refuse serious patients' admission.
"Private hospitals have been given clear instructions to not refuse admission of serious patients. And if they don't have adequate infrastructure, then the hospital needs to stabilize the patient before sending the patient to another hospital," Delhi's Health Minister Satyendra Jain told ANI here.
"We have observed a genuine problem common in all the hospitals that they do not have adequate capacity to admit patients, so we have increased the number of beds in the hospitals. Total around 50,000 beds are now available in the hospitals in Delhi," Jain added.
Replying to a question on what action has been taken by the Delhi Government over the death of dengue patients, he said, "We will take action, but let's be optimistic and hope that there will be no such death of patients due to lack of infrastructure in hospitals."
Six-year-old Aman, died on Sunday, after allegedly being denied admission by various hospitals including the government-run Safdarjung Hospital. This is the second case in less then a week after seven-year-old Avinash died of dengue after his desperate parents went from hospital to hospital for his treatment.
