Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday showered praise on his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is credited with playing a key role in stitching together the alliance with the Samajwadi Party for next month's high-voltage Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, and said that she is an asset to the grand old party.
"Priyanka has been of tremendous help to me as I have been to her. Whether she campaigns or not is her choice, but she is an asset to the Congress," he told the media here during a joint press briefing with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
According to sources, Priyanka will be campaigning for the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance in the Gandhi family borough of Amethi and Rae Bareli.
Sources, however, added that Priyanka may campaign in half a dozen constituencies outside the family pockets.
Uttar Pradesh will be voting for a new state assembly in a seven-phase election between February 11 and March 8. Out of the 403 assembly seats, Congress will be contesting in 105 seats and the Samajwadi Party will field its candidates in rest of the 298 seats.
