Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Member of Parliament Jay Panda on Thursday said that protection for people in political life should be based on the threat perception.

"I think protection for people in political life should be based on the threat perception. It should not have any thing to do with what post who have held in the past and what post they will be hold in near future," Panda said when asked about BJP's demand for "foolproof security" to its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Modi.

"If somebody is in public life and had taken stand on various issues, there are different levels of threats and if there is the level of threat which is equivalent to the threat of others SPG protecties then I see no difficulty in given that because this is not the status symbol.

"So, I think it should be purely based on threat perceptions," he added.

Minister of State for Home RPN Singh on Wednesday said that Modi has been given adequate security.

"Security is given depending on the threat perception. The home ministry has already given him NSG (National Security Guard) cover and special security before any programme," Singh told media here.

The remarks came in the backdrop of the BJP Parliamentary Board passing a resolution demanding PM level security for the Gujarat Chief Minister.

The BJP said Modi's security cover must be increased.

The party also accused both the Bihar and the central governments of monumental failure in providing adequate security to Modi during the party's 'Hunkar' rally' in Patna on October 27 when a series of low-intensity bomb blasts claimed seven lives.

Earlier, former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi claimed that Modi was the 'target' of the Patna serial blasts.

"Not the crowd, Narendra Modi was the target of the blasts in Patna," Sushil Modi said.
