Reiterating the NDA Government's commitment to provide 24 x 7 electricity to all, Minister of State for Coal, Power and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that providing electricity to rural areas of the country is a major challenge before his ministry.
Presenting national awards for meritorious performance in the power sector for 2013-14, Goyal said he will not rest till he provides 24x7 affordable electricity to all.
Emphasising on the need for environment conservation, Goyal said using LED lights must be encouraged in order to reduce carbon emissions.
A total of 31 awards were given to power companies for improving the performance of power plants across the country.
India achieved highest ever power capacity addition of 22,566 Mega Watts and lowest ever power deficit of 3.6 per cent during the last one year of NDA government.
